Cornell University Veterinary Specialists (CUVS) is a specialty and emergency veterinary center located in Stamford, CT. As a subsidiary of Cornell University, CUVS is a mission-driven hospital that redefines the delivery of specialty care by bringing together the best of private practice with the best of academia to benefit pets, owners, and the profession.
 

CUVS boasts one of the largest and most advanced ECC departments in the nation, with 5 ECC specialists, a robust residency training program and an outstanding nursing team that includes several veterinary technician specialists (VTSs). We are equipped to manage the most critical patients. The ECC team is supported by a comprehensive array of specialty services, including surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, oncology, ophthalmology, dentistry-oral surgery and anesthesiology.

We are looking for full-time Credentialed Veterinary Technicians to join our ECC team in the following positions:

  • Emergency Service

  • Inpatient Care

  • Intensive Care Unit

 

Our technicians are vital members of our ECC team, performing patient assessments, diagnostics and treatments, and partnering with our doctors to provide exceptional patient care and outstanding client service and education.
 

We are seeking experienced ECC technicians as well as entry-level and those earlier in their careers looking for mentorship.

This ranges from continual learning and mentorship on the clinic floor to didactic lectures, labs, internal and external CE courses and career pathways toward clinical advancement and/or leadership. NURSES / TECHNICIANS - EMERGENCY & CRITICAL CARE

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Experience as a credentialed veterinary technician (LVT, CVT, RVT) working in an emergency or specialty practice is preferred

  • Knowledge base and technical skill sets depending on position and in accordance with experience

  • Excellent communication and people skills

  • Authentic compassion for animals and people

  • The ability to work collaboratively and respectfully in a diverse environment

  • A dedication to lifelong learning

  • IT competence and some familiarity with electronic medical record systems

  • The ability to remain composed in a fast-paced and stressful environment

Physical Demands and Risks

  • Able to lift patients up to 50 pounds without assistance

  • Walking, standing for long periods of time; bending; kneeling

  • Stress associated with patient illness, death, and compassion fatigue

  • Able to recognize and appropriately handle fractious patients

  • Exposure to zoonotic diseases
