We are looking for full time Veterinary Assistants to join our team.
 

This position has as a primary goal to facilitate exemplary patient care and seamless communication. As a core member of the veterinary medical team, the Assistant will work closely with the technicians, doctors and other staff members to carry out the care of patients in the hospital wards and/or specialty services. The Assistant will be responsible for various aspects of patient care depending on the department and the assistant’s skills.

The Assistant is expected to maintain and promote the CUVS core values and standards of care and adhere to protocols established within the hospital. Additionally, the Assistant will be expected to uphold the culture of learning through training and professional enhancement of skills and knowledge.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 1-2 years’ experience as an assistant in a veterinary practice; specialty practice preferred

  • Ability to restrain patients for examination or procedures

  • Ability to recognize and appropriately handle fractious patients

  • Ability to proactively fulfill duties including but not limited to stocking, organization, laboratory management, and patient handling

  • Ensure maintenance and cleanliness of clinical areas in the hospital

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clinical staff regarding patient status, as well as effectively and compassionately with pet owners as appropriate

  • Ability to handle patients according to CUVS standards of care and treatment orders prescribed by the clinician

  • Ability to assist the clinician and technician in all aspects of nursing care.

Physical Demands and Risks

  • Ability to lift patients up to 50 pounds without assistance

  • Walking, standing for long periods of time, bending, kneeling

  • Stress associated with patient illness, death, and compassion-fatigue

  • Exposure to zoonotic diseases

  • Exposure to toxic chemicals, caustic agents, radiation, and chemotherapeutic agents
